Help Austin Help Haiti

Why we were hired…. (and why we donated our services)

Immediately following the earthquake tragedy in Haiti, Joe Ely and the owners of Direct Events quickly organized a benefit concert to raise money for the relief efforts in Haiti.  The Austin Music Hall donated the venue and Joe Ely rallied top Texas music acts such as Asleep at the Wheel, Bob Schneider, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Double Trouble to perform at the concert.  Joe Ely asked Lava Studios to donate audio and video services so that a DVD product could be created and sold following the event.

What we did…..

The Lava team donated all equipment and personnel to shoot and record over 8 hours of content during the all day concert in early 2010.  Lava’s ten member crew executed a five camera HD video shoot and a 24 track multi track audio recording onsite at the Austin Music Hall.  Lava also handled mixing and mastering of the audio and turnkey post production on the video.

Results…..

The finishing touches are being put on the final DVD product and the team is in discussions with PBS about airing a telethon which would leverage the video content from the concert to raise funding in a live telethon.  The concert itself raised over $100,000 which was donated to the Clinton/Bush Haiti relief foundation.

The Whole Foods Podcast Series

Why we were hired….

Whole Foods hired Lava to provide turnkey production of an audio podcast series featuring subject matter experts, organic food and body products and to communicate the Whole Foods’ mission and vision.

What we did…..

The Lava team worked with Whole Foods to conceptualize the format, process, production, and delivery of the final media product to best represent whole foods market’s goal of delivering their message through this podcast format.   We designed a program similar in style to a radio talk show format, but shorter – usually varying from 5 to 15 minutes in length.  The show included a host, Paige Brady from Whole Foods and featured interviews with various subject matter experts, Q&A, news and custom original music.  One of the more challenging aspects of this project is the need to capture audio interviews with subject matter experts who are located around the world.  Lava developed a system and recording process leveraging a phone patch system that allows us to conduct remote recording sessions around the world from our headquarters in Austin, TX.

Results…..

The Whole Foods Podcast Series is now into its fourth consecutive year of production.  We have produced and delivered hundreds of podcasts and Whole Foods has reached tens of thousands of listeners through the program.  Whole Foods plans to continue the series indefinitely as they find it an extremely powerful and cost effective way to deliver this information to its client base.

The Zone Read Podcast Series

Why we were hired….

The Zone Read engaged with Lava Studios to produce a weekly audio podcast featuring the Texas Longhorns football team.

What we did…..

The Lava team provided turnkey development and production services from development of the creative concept all the way through final delivery of the weekly show. We designed the podcast to be much like a radio talk show format and featured Brian “BJ” Jones, former Longhorn and NFL player and current media personality, as the host of the show. The show was produced with compelling, informative, and entertaining segments, interviews with current and former coaches and players, Q & A, news, and local original music.  We leveraged our extensive experience and techniques in producing traditional radio, television, film, and multimedia programs for the gathering of the  various assets required for assembly of the podcast.  There were a variety of sources to assimilate – host and announcer voiceovers recorded in the studio, field and phone interviews and questions, music bed, local band song files and sound effects. Lava used its talented musical resources for music beds, segues, and featured local band music at the end of each podcast, which became a popular feature of the program.

Results…..

The Zone Read was a huge success for all parties. With hundreds of thousands of downloads of the program, it became the worldwide #1 most downloaded podcast in the sports category several times during the project. Additionally, because of the popularity and high number of downloads, the program was monetized by attracting sponsorship dollars.
